MCGAHA CHAPEL UPDATES
Throughout the cold winter days and nights, the historic McGaha Chapel stands without heat or lights, as it has for most of its one hundred and fifty-two years. However, all was not so quiet as plans were being made to take care of a few maintenance issues with the beautiful old building and its grounds. Within the last year, powder post beetles have taken up residence in the floorboards and exterior walls. The steps and handrails at the entrance of the Chapel were decaying and three large trees along the upper driveway had died and were in danger of falling on the structure. Due to donations of funds and labor, the trees are down, the steps and handrails have been replaced and a treatment to protect the unpainted floors, exterior walls, and pews has been applied in the last few days. These local donations to the Transylvania Historical Society have paid for the work that will allow us to enjoy this primitive Chapel and its rich Cedar Mountain history for years to come. Thank you for your support and we look forward to our summer sing-along on Saturday, June 1st.

AROUND THE HOUSE by Linda Packer Young
I finally decided to hire someone to finish the scribing of wainscoting on our bathroom wall. I found Keven Boak on Nextdoor and he did it like it was easy. I asked about bringing the electrical boxes for the light switch and wall receptacle out to meet the new depth of the wall. He told me how to do it and I said OK, thanks I’ll leave it to you. My hint worked and everything was done perfectly. We did add more wainscoting to the other side of the door frame to finish it. It looks so nice now. We just have to add a towel ring and a tissue holder. I’ve missed my magnified wall-mounted makeup mirror too. So that’s next.
